The familiar client walks in, drops her bag, and says, “Same as last time.”
Here’s where people usually screw it up: they skip the consult because they “know” her.

Bodies change. Meds change. Seasons change. Skipping the consult gambles with results and puts you on the hook if something goes sideways. The fix isn’t a big speech—it’s a tiny, repeatable check that lives in your process.

The 90-second consult that saves appointments

    Situation → tension → insight:
You’re busy; she’s early; the chair is open. But last month she started a retinoid, switched mascara, and slept on a silk pillowcase (finally). Those details decide whether you adjust products or timings. You won’t hear them unless you ask.

    Do this: the “3+2” check

    • Three questions (client speaks):

      1. Any new meds, allergies, or sensitivities since last visit?

      2. Any skin changes or recent procedures (peels, injectables, sunburn)?

      3. Goal today—keep it identical or tweak it?

    • Two confirmations (you speak):
      4) Risks + aftercare in one breath, right above the signature.
      5) Plan for today (products/settings), so expectations are clear.

Put it in writing. Tiny consult, big protection.

How to make it automatic with Glow Forms

    • Add a “Health Recheck” screen to returning-client forms. Five required toggles, one free-text line. Takes ~30–60 seconds.

    • Keep policy numbers visible inside the form (deposit and late/no-show). Set once in Options → Cancellations and they auto-fill anywhere you use the block.

    • Note products/settings + photos in the client record. When she returns, you’re not guessing—you’re iterating.

    • Separate Photo/Video Release from treatment consent. Options: No / Yes / Brows only. Respect builds trust.

What changes more than people admit

    • New retinoids or acne meds (goodbye, same peel strength).

    • Pregnancy/nursing (service adjustments).

    • Supplements/blood thinners (tint, needles, and timing matter).

    • Seasonal shifts (humidity, SPF habits, heating).

    • Lifestyle tweaks (sauna, swim, new lash serum).

If one box flips, your plan should move with it.

Scripts that keep it human (steal these)

    • “Since your last visit, any new meds or skin changes? It’s a 30-second safety check.”

    • “Because you started a retinoid, we’ll drop peel strength and focus on barrier today.”

    • “Same shape as last time, a touch softer at the front—sound good?”

    • “Your aftercare is in your email again—reply if anything feels off.”

    The quiet payoff

    • Cleaner client records → faster decisions next time.

    • Fewer touch-ups → more on-time finishes.

    • Visible professionalism → clients feel looked after, not processed.

    Tiny Tuesday story

A loyal lash client said “same as always.” The Health Recheck showed a new lash growth serum. We switched to sensitive adhesive and shortened cure time. No irritation, better hold, zero drama. That 60 seconds paid for itself.

Do the small consult every time. It’s not bureaucracy—it’s craftsmanship that protects your client, your work, and your calendar.
