Let’s be honest: even great clients forget directions. The result is a worried DM and a tiny panic on your end. Here’s a no-drama plan that protects the relationship and gets results back on track.

Start with calm triage (write it down)

Ask three specifics and document them:

    • When did symptoms start? Immediately, later that day, next morning.

    • Where + how does it feel? Itchy, tight, tender, warm, swollen.

    • What happened since? Heat, workouts, sun, products, makeup, meds.

Take photos (with permission) and add them to the client record.

    Give a one-screen reset plan

Keep it short enough to follow today:

    • Stop actives/extras for 48–72 hours.

    • Soothe with the gentlest cleanse + calm + protect.

    • Check-in tomorrow with a quick photo.
Text or link it—don’t rely on memory.

Decide the remedy: adjust, correct, or wait

    • Adjust: use your sensitive-skin protocol next visit; patch-test if needed.

    • Correct: offer a focused correction visit when appropriate—set boundaries so it isn’t a full re-service.

    • Wait + repair: sometimes time and barrier care are the fix.

    Scripts that keep it human

    • First reply: “Thanks for telling me—let’s fix this. I’ll send a tiny reset now and we’ll check in tomorrow with a photo.”

    • If they admit skipping steps: “Happens! We’ll calm things today and tweak your plan so it’s easier next time.”

    • Refund request right away: “I want you happy. Let’s stabilize first, then I’ll outline the best next step—correction visit or an appropriate credit.”

Prevent the repeat (design for real life)

    • Put aftercare inside confirmations as a link with two bullets and a photo.

    • 24-hour nudge for the step most people forget.

    • Hand a mini card/QR at checkout.

    • Offer a low-maintenance variant of the service when schedules are tight.

    Document like a pro

In the record: timeline, area, sensations, triggers, advice given, products used, photos, and follow-up date. Tag the cause if clear (e.g., sauna, retinoid, sun) so patterns surface.

    Boundaries that still feel kind

    • Keep your redo/credit policy short and visible; apply it consistently.

    • “Grace once” is allowed—note it in the file.

    • Chronic non-followers? Prepay and book only services with gentler aftercare.

    Your 7-day aftercare upgrade

    1. Draft a one-screen reset template.

    2. Add aftercare links to confirmations and receipts.

    3. Record a 30-second clip showing the first two steps.

    4. Create a “busy-week” alternative protocol.

    5. Turn on a 24-hour check-in message.

    6. Add a consult line: “Any heat/workouts/travel in the next 48–72 hours?”

    7. Review this week’s cases and add one prevention line to your pre-care.
